Re-gravelling project expected to ease travel

Mayor Sibongile Khathi mentioned the project is estimated to take a period of six months to complete, and in the meantime will create job opportunities for locals.

The Dududu community, (Nkampula) ward 19, welcomed the introduction of the Gumede Bhodla Road project with Umdoni Municipality officials at a sod turning ceremony last week.

“The reality of travel convenience is not far from reach for Ward 3 and 19 communities following the official launch of the re-gravelling of Gumede Bhodla Road that will now enable the joining of these two wards,” said Zime Gcaba, Umdoni Municipality’s communications officer.

“For years these communities utilised long routes to get to from point A to point B, so the re-gravelling project will bring travel ease, allowing a shorter travel route.”

The project includes construction of a 1.17km road with 5m wide gravel roads, wide concrete surfaced road along steep sections, construction of side drains, subsoil drains, catch pits, manholes, pipe culverts and drains for storm water drainage, Gabion baskets earth retaining structure and concrete culvert.

Mayor Sibongile Khathi mentioned the project is estimated to take a period of six months to complete, and in the meantime will create job opportunities for locals.
