After all the looting that has taken place, with Port Edward especially hard hit yesterday (Tuesday), the South African Defence Force arrived in town this morning.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal, welcomes the additional deployment of 25 000 additional SANDF members to the province from tomorrow – a rollout which will include mechanized vehicles and helicopters.
The army has apparently checked into Port Edward Holiday resort. Soldiers were spotted carrying gear into the chalets.
They were also seen at Oribi Plaza in Port Shepstone earlier this evening.
It’s been a surreal day for residents, many trying to find basic essentials and fill up with petrol.
In Harding, the community including farmers and locals of all race have united to clean-up the town which has been hard hit by rioters and looters.
Together with the police, the community has closed off the town and are not allowing anyone in while they work tirelessly to pick up the pieces.
On the ground, the South Coast community is working together with Saps, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality law enforcement officers and security personnel remains on high alert.
There have been requests via social media asking for men to join the patrols that are taking place all over the coast tonight.
