Black mamba climbs into bed

Sarel had to cut the lining of the base to get the snake out.

Winter is the time of year mambas come together to mate.

So, don’t be surprised if you see a pair together.

Recently, the South Coast’s snake catcher Sarel van der Merwe received a call regarding a lonesome black mamba in a room in Paddock.

It took the snake catcher two trips to find the deadly snake, measuring more than three metres.

“I couldn’t find it on the first callout, but it was spotted popping his head out through a tiny hole in the base of the mattress, so I returned the following day to catch it,” he said.

When he arrived in Paddock there was quite an audience, including KZN Wildlife.

Sarel had to cut the lining of the base to get the snake out.

If snakes need to be removed, it is best to call the snake catcher on 082 683 1604.
