Suspect arrested for staged hijacking

The driver then proceeded to Harding where he off-loaded more boxes of stock.

A truck driver, together with his crew, were allegedly hijacked at Ezinqoleni on the morning of April 27.

The driver, a 36 year old man, alleged that the truck was hijacked by men who were traveling in three different vehicles who stole the stock they were delivering to a local supermarket in the Ezinqoleni area.

A case of carjacking was opened at Ezinqoleni police station.

An extensive investigation revealed that on the day after the alleged incident, the driver deliberately drove the company vehicle to a service station in Bellair where he off-loaded 10 boxes of the stock.

The driver then proceeded to Harding where he off-loaded more boxes of stock.

The stolen stock contained 800 boxes of chicken leg quarters and 94 boxes of chicken pieces.

The total value of stock lost was R350 000-00.

The investigation is ongoing, with the driver expected to appear in court soon.
