A large scale search is currently underway for a local couple who have gone missing in the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve.
The missing couple believed to be in their 60’s are known to regularly hike in the reserve.
Glen Preston of Med-Evac said they received a call around 5pm yesterday (Sunday) informing them that a couple had gone missing.

The Med-Evac crew were joined by the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Fire Department, Saps K9 Search and Rescue and Port Edward NSRI.
Mr Preston said they suspended the search at around 2am today (Monday) and they regrouped at first light to start retracing the trails.
Hendrik Ludick of Airtrac 101 is assisting with a helicopter to cover the river valley this morning.

*SIDE NOTE: The Umtamvuna Nature Reserve is situated in South Africa on the KwaZulu-Natal side of the Mtamvuna River, and is managed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. The reserve is 3,257 hectares in extent and was established on 25 July 1971.
