Man behind bars for murdering fiancée

When they arrived at the scene, a woman's body was found with multiple stab wounds.

Mlungisi Leon Chamane (33) recently appeared at the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court and was convicted and sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment for murdering his fiancée, Lungi Mbhele (30).

Earlier this month, Umkomaas Saps was informed about the presence of a body lying on Watsonia Drive in Roseneath, Umkomaas.

When they arrived at the scene, a woman’s body was found with multiple stab wounds.

A case of murder was opened at the police station for investigation and the woman was identified as Lungi Mbhele, a resident of Mthwalume who lived in Umkomaas because of work commitments.

On the day of her murder, Lungi was on her way to work when she was confronted by her fiancé Mlungisi Chamane (33), who then stabbed her 27 times, fled the area and went into hiding.

He was later located and arrested at his home in Mthwalume and charged with murder.
