Four injured following Umtamvuna River boat accident

A ski-boat seemed to have collided with a shoreline cliff face near to The Pont.

NSRI Port Edward duty crew were activated following reports of a boat accident near to The Pont on the Umtamvuna River on Tuesday, April 13.

According to NSRI Port Edward station commander, Gert du Plessis, a ski-boat seemed to have collided with a shoreline cliff face near to The Pont.

NSRI Port Edward crew responded in its sea rescue vehicle.

SAPS, Police Search and Rescue, Med-Evac and Hibiscus Fire and Rescue Services also responded.

“Two adult males and two adult females were treated for injuries.

An adult male and adult female were transported to hospital by Med-Evac ambulance for injuries sustained in the accident.

They suffered serious injuries and they are recovering in hospital.

One adult male was transported privately to hospital,” said du Plessis.

He further stated that a female child was medically assessed by paramedics and was treated for shock.

SAPS and the South African Maritime Safety Authority are investigating the accident.
