Stolen police firearm recovered by Hawks

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said the man fled the scene and a case of house robbery was reported at Hibberdene police station.

A 28-year-old man was arrested last Friday for house robbery which occurred in the Hibberdene area in September last year.

It is alleged that a police sergeant was asleep at home when he was awakened by the thief at gunpoint.

The man robbed him of his service pistol with live rounds of ammunition and a cellphone.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said the man fled the scene and a case of house robbery was reported at Hibberdene police station.

Last Friday, the Hawks pursued information about the whereabouts of the man and a joint operation was conducted.

During the operation, police recovered the policeman’s firearm as well as a another firearm, reportedly stolen during a house robbery in Port Shepstone last year.

The man appeared in the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court on Monday this week.
