A non-profit organisation, Leading Miracles Foundation which opened its doors in Shelly Beach in mid-2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic aims to implement outreach programmes, offer support to centres in dire need and help the less fortunate with food parcels and essential items.
It will serve the areas from Port Edward to Amanzimtoti, including surrounding areas.
Although Leading Miracles head office is based in Limpopo, founder and CEO, Lindie Meyer decided to set-up here on seeing the needs in the community.
“As the Covid-19 pandemic struck, families struggled to make ends meet. We came across people who needed support with food parcels and necessary items. Churches and some facilities are helping the community, but we wanted to give a helping hand,” said Lindie.
As her parents were settling on the South Coast, she decided to open a branch here.
During the earlier stages of lockdown, the organisation assisted families with food parcels, clothes and other essential items.
For Christmas, they initiated a ‘blessing in a box project’. They put together bags containing toys, hygiene products and treats, then arranged a small gathering.
They handed out the bags, along with cold drinks, cake and non-perishable foods that was donated with soup mixes.
The foundation also put smiles on the faces of residents of Reinhardt’s Place, a multi-disabilities institution and Bobbi Bear which assists rape victims.
According to Lindie, everywhere they go, the needs remain more or less the same.
Also, with companies cutting budgets, individuals are being laid off.
“Many families and institutions were put under more strain during lockdown, not just financially but emotionally too. Communities are struggling and losing hope,” said Lindie.
This year, the foundation intends to focus on Bible outreach programmes at rehabilitation facilities, prisons and mental institutions; stationery and lunchbox projects and setting up of orphanages.
Lindie was inspired to start Leading Miracles after facing many life challenges, both health-wise and financially.
“I was born with heart and hip defects and had numerous operations and hip replacements with a few more to come. I also realised I would not be able to have children. In the last few years, my husband and I dealt with a few miscarriages, and decided to stop fertility treatments and move forward in life.”
In 2012, Lindie did an outreach project in Polokwane and continued doing small outreaches.
In July 2018, she registered Leading Miracles and resigned from her full-time job in sales.
“My primary goal is to make a difference and put smiles on faces.”
