Umdoni Municipality officially appoints new managers

The contract will end on December 30, 2025.

Umdoni Municipality has officially appointed its general manager of Technical Services, Simphiwe Nkwanyana, as well as its first youth manager, Lungile Khawula.

Mr Nkwanyana served as an acting manager in the technical services department for 12 months prior to his appointment and began working as an official general manager on January 1 this year. The contract will end on December 30, 2025.

“The newly appointed head of department will continue advancing the service delivery imperatives of this department relating to the functions of roads and storm-water services, project management, housing and waste management amongst other duties,” explained Sphelele Cele, Umdoni Municipality’s communications manager.

Ms Cele added that Mr Nkwanyana had a lot of experience in this department through his previous employments in local government and the private sector and that he has a Bachelor of Technology degree in civil engineering, a Masters in Business Administration, a qualification in municipal finance management programme and a certificate in local government and development management to help him along the way in his term in office.

With regards to the youth manager, during the recent Mayoral Izimbizo programme, Mayor Sibongile Khathi ensured that the community, especially the youth, were informed of the municipality’s plans to employ a youth manager to attend to all youth related issues.

Umdoni Youth Office is responsible for the following areas in ensuring that the local youth is development through being exposed to various opportunities which include skills development, bursary assistance and business opportunities amongst other areas of development,” said Ms Cele.

With this in mind and to show its support of women emancipation and ensuring that local young women are given opportunities in strategic positions in local government, the municipality appointed Ms Khawula from Umzinto who began her her term in office from January 1.

“The employment of the youth manager has been an issue of high interest especially towards ensuring the Umdoni youth get duly assisted on programmes championed by this office,” said Mayor Khathi.

“We are now confident that there will be a positive change going forward and Umdoni youth’s needs will be given adequate attention.”
