NSRI appeals for caution around coastline

NSRI urges bathers to only swim at beaches (when permitted) protected by lifeguards and to swim in between the lifeguards' safe swimming zone flags posted on the beach.

NSRI has appealed to the public to be safe leading up to and into the New Year.

This safety alert comes after numerous incidents were attended to by NSRI stations around the coast and on inland waters on Boxing Day.

Fishermen, coastline rock anglers and hikers are urged to take heed of the increasing spring tides as this month’s full moon approaches with a spring tide that peaks on December 30.

NSRI urges bathers to only swim at beaches (when permitted) protected by lifeguards and to swim in between the lifeguards’ safe swimming zone flags posted on the beach.

Boaters, paddlers and sail boarders are urged to wear properly fitting and fastened life-jackets.

Boaters are urged to ensure their craft are in working order and their motors are serviced before launching.

Download and use the NSRI RSA SafeTrx cellphone app and have safety equipment and and emergency plans in place.

NSRI has developed a safety monitor ID tag to be worn by the responsible person overseeing children when they are swimming.
