Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, beaches and public parks will be closed on what are traditionally the busiest days of the festive season in KwaZulu-Natal.
These days are December 25, 26 and 31 this year and January 1,2 and 3 next year.
Also, beaches and parks that are open to the public will only be open between 9am and 6pm.
Festivals, live music, and live performances at beaches are prohibited.
The situation will be monitored daily by local authorities to ensure compliance with the regulations on gatherings and the prohibition of alcohol.
In instances, where there are large crowds or poor compliance with safety measures, specific beaches and recreational parks will be closed.
Alcohol consumption in all public spaces, such as beaches and parks, is strictly forbidden.
Police advise the public to be cautious this festive season.
“Police officers will be out in full force to enforce law and order. All those who are found to be contravening the regulations of the Disaster Management Act will face the full might of the law,” said provincial police spokesman, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.
She stressed that roadblocks, stop and searches are ongoing in the province.
“During the operations and as part of enforcing compliance with the Liquor Act, drinking in public will be prohibited. We are appealing to community members to consider staying at home during this festive season,” said Colonel Mbele.
