Police focus on drugs and illegal liquor

The arrests were as a result of a joint operation, focused on liquor outlets and drugs, between Margate Crime Prevention and the Ugu District Operational Command Centre (OCC).

Six men, aged between 25 and 39, were recently arrested and charged for the possession of a dangerous weapon as well as dealing in drugs including heroin, crystal meth and cocaine.

Police spokesman Sergeant Sibu Ncane said the arrests were made by the Margate Crime Prevention and Rapid Response team while conducting stop and search operations at Margate Taxi Rank.

In a separate incident last Saturday, two men aged 24 and 33 respectively were arrested for selling liquor without a license.

The arrests were as a result of a joint operation, focused on liquor outlets and drugs, between Margate Crime Prevention and the Ugu District Operational Command Centre (OCC).

The liquor was seized by police and both men were released after paying a fine.

 

A 41-year-old foreign national was arrested at Margate pavilion for being in possession of 30 pieces of rock and a parcel of cocaine.

Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele has warned that more operations will take place throughout the district to eradicate illegal liquor sales and drug peddling.

She added that her office would gladly assist police precincts requiring additional support and commended Margate SAPS for their consistent proactive policing methods.
