20 year sentence for murdering wife and setting her alight

Ntombivelile Ngilande suffered 70 percent burns to her body and died at Port Shepstone Hospital.

Mlungisi Ngilande (40) was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for murder by the Port Shepstone Regional Court on Monday this week.

According to police spokesman, Sergeant Sibu Ncane, after an argument with his wife Ntombivelile (38) on August 30, 2019, Ngilande doused her with thinners and set her alight at their home in Gclima, near Margate.

She suffered 70 percent burns to her body and died at Port Shepstone Hospital on September 9, 2019.

The investigating officer was Detective Sergeant Michelle van Niekerk.

Margate station commander, Brigadier William Slabbert welcomed the sentence and said it would send a strong message to those who still commit acts of gender-based violence.
