Oshabeni Inkosi Sabatha Lushaba shot twice

His condition has been described as stable.

An arrest has been made following the attempted murder of Oshabeni Inkosi, Sabatha Lushaba.

Inkosi Lushaba was at a tavern in the area last Sunday (November 1) when he was shot twice while in the restroom.

One of the bullets struck him in the face.

He was rushed to the local clinic and later transferred to a Port Shepstone hospital.

His condition has been described as stable.

Sfundo Ngwane, spokesman for the Oshabeni Tribal Council appealed to the community to remain calm as this was a very serious matter.

“The police must be allowed to do their work and investigate who tried to kill Inkosi.

“People must not propagate misinformation or allegations on social media or talk about this matter because it may jeopardise the police investigation,” he said.

Mr Ngwane added that at this stage they did not know the motive for the attack, or who was behind it.

“We are disturbed by such horrendous deeds. This attack has shocked us and the Lushaba nation as this happened at a time when the nation was planning a traditional ritual for the Inkosi’s late father, Inkosi Ziwengu Lushaba who died a few years ago.”

The Inkosi’s brother, Sthembiso Lushaba also called for calm.

“We are relieved that police have made a breakthrough and arrested a suspect. We heard that he will appear before court soon. We appeal for calm in the community and the nation. All what we want is peace and order.”

KZN police spokesman Colonel Thembeka Mbele said a 29-year-old man had been arrested on November 2 and was expected to appear before the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court this week on a charge of attempted murder.
