Port Shepstone car thief jailed for 9 years

Video footage revealed that it took Radebe less than two minutes to gain access to the vehicle and to steal it.

Sanele Radebe (33) of Umlazi was sentenced in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court to an effective nine years’ imprisonment last week, having pleaded guilty to charges of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a motor breaking implement.

A Port Shepstone man had parked his vehicle at a shopping mall near the beachfront on August 21.

Upon returning, he found his vehicle had been stolen.

This was immediately reported to the police and shortly thereafter, members of Scottburgh SAPS spotted the vehicle on the N2 travelling towards Durban.

Police stopped the vehicle and arrested Radebe who had jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to escape.

The investigating officer was Detective Warrant Officer Jacques Vermaak of Port Shepstone Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit.

Video footage revealed that it took Radebe less than two minutes to gain access to the vehicle and to steal it.
