Southcity Christian College recently held its combined Grade 12 final assembly and 2020 prizegiving ceremony.
Deputy heads Ethan Saunders and McKayla du Bruyn opened the proceedings centering the school’s thoughts on God and His sustaining hand.
Head girl Sarah-Joy Pringle outlined the valuable experiences gained by the matric class of 2020, despite the pandemic, in her address while Jeandre Joubert emphasised that joy should not depend on circumstances, which change constantly, but should rather be rooted in Jesus Christ.
Principal Wendy Lourens expressed her admiration at how staff, pupils and parents had overcome the hurdles this year presented.
Sarah-Joy was the top achiever for the year, receiving the Dux award, the Student of the Year award and many subject awards.
Jeandre received the Silver Wreath Plate for service above self and placed second in Grade 12. He too received merit subject awards.
Sportswoman and Man of the year prizes were awarded to McKayla du Bruyn and Gareth Pieterse for their consistently high sporting achievements.
Many other learners were honoured for their hard work in all spheres of school life.
The new prefects were also announced.
They are Ondela Mtati (head boy), Suné de Wit (head girl), Michael Clifton (deputy head boy), Erin Grobler (deputy head girl), Emily Peckham, Paige Elliott, Vian Senekal, Yamayalo Mhlelembana, Sean Bennett, Graham Sole, Thabo Shibe and Shyan Assam.
