PinkDrive raises awareness in Umzinto

PinkDrive has four principal interventions.

Cancer is everyone’s concern, and the PinkDrive helps raise awareness about and arranges screening for breast, cervical, prostate and testicular cancers in particular.

This non-profit organisation gives people without access to proper healthcare and those who live in rural areas, townships and sub-urban areas the opportunity to be examined.

The PinkDrive came to the Umzinto Town Hall last week, and many took advantage of the visit to get screened and learn more about the importance of early cancer detection.

The PinkDrive was started in 2009 by Noelene Kotschan who believed that early detection would help prolong a life.

Besides screenings, the PinkDrive creates health awareness in general, and specifically health education and awareness of gender-related cancers in South Africa.

PinkDrive has four principal interventions.

These include clinical breast exams (a mass screening service provided to women and men of all ages and which includes one-on-one cancer education focusing on self-examination as well as a breast examination); mammograms which are primarily provided for women over the age of 40; pap smears for cervical cancer screening and prostate specific antigen blood tests (PSA) for men over the age of 40.
