Teen sentenced for attempted murder and possession of illegal firearm, ammunition

Charges stemmed from an incident on August 4, 2019 when an argument between the teen and a man resulted in a woman being shot twice.

A 14-year-old offender was sentenced in the Port Shepstone Regional Court on Tuesday this week to seven years’ imprisonment, suspended for five years, for attempted murder.

He received a further four years’ imprisonment, also suspended for five years, for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The sentences will ruin concurrently.

The teen pleaded guilty.

Charges stemmed from an incident on August 4, 2019 when an argument between the teen and a man resulted in a woman being shot twice.

Detective Sergeant Mlungisisi Jabe of Gamalakhe Detective Service was the investigating officer, and the arrest was made in the Sdeni area of Gamalakhe.

Acting Ugu District Commissioner, Brigadier Bongani Sibiya was pleased with the outcome of the case which sent a strong message to juvenile offenders to refrain from committing crime.
