Khanya Hospice donates glucometers to diabetics

After handing out meters to those who had indicated a need for them, hospice staff decided to use the power of social media to reach out to the wider community in order to distribute the remaining instruments.

Craigieburn couple Dan and Vigie Govender were pleased to receive a free blood glucose meter from Khanya Hospice recently.

Several previously-owned glucometers had been donated to hospice for distribution in the community.

After handing out meters to those who had indicated a need for them, hospice staff decided to use the power of social media to reach out to the wider community in order to distribute the remaining instruments.

“After all, they are no use to anybody if they just sit in a box,” said Neil McDonald, CEO of Khanya Hospice.

The Govender family recently collected their own glucometer, and will be handing out additional machines to another family member and a friend.
