Noel ‘zooms’ in as Rotary Club of Port Shepstone president … and Shamin shines

Incoming president Noel Coetzee said he hoped Rotarians could be real game-changers.

The Rotary Club of Port Shepstone recently held its annual induction dinner (via Zoom) with Noel Coetzee taking over as the new president.

Shamin Maharaj was named Rotarian of the Year for the club.

There were five recipients of Paul Harris awards, namely Dell Pendock, Gerald Baldrey, Graham Dickson. Joan D’Arcy and Reggie John.

Mr Coetzee congratulated past president Rowan D’Arcy on an excellent job done last year. He said he was looking forward to the role of president, considering it an honour and a privilege to serve the club and community.

His theme is ‘Time to Change Lanes’.

He felt it was a challenging, yet exciting time to part of the complex journey most in the country currently face.

“We need to be sensitive to post Covid-19 lockdown circumstances, and that is so pertinent to our approach in serving our community,” he said.

He hoped Rotarians could be real game-changers.

“Let us seize the moment and be what we were created to be. We have the opportunity to change the face of service, and that is a massively exciting prospect. I challenge each one of you to be a real catalyst for change,” he said.

“Let us all be encouraged as we surge forward with great intent onto the new highway. Don’t be tempted to continually look in the rear view mirror. The road signs ahead will direct our path, and ultimately the destination of our Port Shepstone Rotary Club, and service to our community itself.”
