Illegal liquor outlets closed by police

The alcohol was confiscated and the owners fined.

A number of liquor outlets operating illegally were targeted last Saturday by police from the SAPS liquor office.

The outlets were in Murchison, Betania, Bhobhoyi, Marburg and Merlewood.

Police spokesman Sergeant Sibu Ncane said Warrant Officer Johan Maree and members confiscated a large quantity of alcohol which will be destroyed and the owners were fined accordingly.

“They were operating without licences. Ongoing inspections by police are held to determine compliance by liquor outlets,” he added.
