Sarel had to take off his shoes and venture into the water to nab it.

Interestingly, Sarel recently caught a harmless and beautiful file snake deep inland of Umzumbe.

“Residents thought it was a black mamba and jumped out of the window.

“The house was locked from the inside, so I had to climb through the window to catch what turned out to be a file snake,” he laughed.

Sarel said has never heard of this snake, usually found on the North Coast, being caught on the South Coast.

This docile, inoffensive snake is active at night when it hunts for prey, especially other snakes.

It is completely harmless yet eats venomous snakes such as the black mamba and puff adder.

In between all the adventures, Sarel has also saved a black mamba, boomslang and a few green mambas.
