DURING the early hours of Thursday last week, a disgruntled group of people blockaded the R102 near the Sezela turn-off and the N2 south bound before the Sezela off ramp with trees, logs and branches.

“The logs were set alight and Umdoni Disaster Management, and Fire and Rescue were alerted to extinguish the fire,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.

After flames were doused, the crowd dispersed.

Members of Scottburgh and Port Shepstone Saps and Public Order Policing Units were on hand to monitor the situation.

“The community is reportedly unhappy because of the lack of running water in the area,” said Captain Francis.

On Tuesday last week, the N2 north and southbound near Umgababa were closed after vehicles were stoned and a large group of people petrol bombed a truck.

The protest is also believed to have been related to a lack of service delivery.
