Joléne Vujevic, the sustainability projects coordinator for Genesis, said they are extremely grateful for the donation.

Philani Sikobi started Genesis Wave of Hope Surf Academy in 2017.

It was while he was volunteering at the Genesis Youth Centre that Philani met young people from the neighbouring communities of Bhoyibhoyi and Murchison, and invited them to join his new surf academy.

He now has 65 boy and girl surfers from the areas around Marburg and Port Shepstone.

Philani not only finds talented young surfers as a surf coach but is also changing lives as a mentor and a life coach.

He hopes to change children’s lives through the gift of surfing – not to make them world champion surfers – but world-changing young men and women.

Joléne said their next focus will be on fundraising for SA Junior Champs, as hopefully 10 from the surf academy will qualify.
