Taxi rolls near Gamalakhe after suspected hijacking

One person was injured in the rollover.

On New Year’s Day the driver of a taxi lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll on the P200 near Gamalakhe.

Craig Botha of Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service said paramedics found one person had suffered minor injuries.

“According to the driver of the taxi, he had  he lost control of the vehicle due to being hijacked,” said Mr Botha.

Police spokesman, Petros Mpinge confirmed the incident, adding that the Port Shepstone Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit was investigating.

“The 28-year-old man was driving along Marine Drive in St Michael’s on Wednesday, January 1 at about 2:30pm, when he was forced to a stop by a man who stabbed him in the hand, took the vehicle and fled.”

No arrests have been made yet.
