Caution: Sassa beneficiaries warned to beware of fraud

the department has said if beneficiaries are at all suspicious of anything related to their gold cards, they should immediately call or visit their nearest Sassa offices for assistance.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa)has cautioned social grant beneficiaries to be on the alert for possible fraud.

Sassa spokesman, Senzeni Ngubeni said if beneficiaries were at all suspicious of anything related to their gold cards, they should immediately call or visit  their nearest Sassa offices for assistance.

“When visiting the offices to report possible fraud, beneficiaries must produce a valid ID, social grant gold payment card, proof of residence and affidavit  to confirm their personal details,”said Mr Ngobese.

The affidavit must declare and confirm that the unlawful transaction or withdrawal was not committed by the beneficiary or rightful owner of the payment card,he added.

“If the beneficiary receives their grant through a personal bank account, they must bring along proof of banking details.”

Mr Ngobese went on to say social grant beneficiaries must note that it is their responsibility to safe guard the payment cards, pin codes and to avoid throwing away the slips containing personal information  which fraudsters can use to access money in the account.

“Beneficiaries have the right to change the password at Sassa offices or South African Post Offices when suspecting that their pin code has been compromised or is no longer a secret.”
