Five armed men wanted for attempted robbery at St Faiths

The men forced pensioners to the ground before attempting to rob a supermarket.

Five suspects are still at large after attempting to rob a supermarket in Eluphepheni near St Faiths.

It is believed that while pensioners were queuing  to collect their pension pay outs before the shop  opened, they were accosted by the gang.

The men, armed with rifles and handguns, reportedly ordered the elderly to lie down before robbing one pensioner of his licenced firearm, KZN police spokesman Captain Nqobile Gwala confirmed.

“They broke the  locks on the shop’s door  to gain entry,” said Captain Gwala.

He added that explosive devices were used in an attempt to open the safe, but without success.

The suspects then fled.
