Margate Moves: Be a beach litter buster

The clean-up will be followed by a bring and braai - take along some meat and liquid refreshments.

RAMSGATE Lions’ Club invites everyone to join the big beach clean-up next month.

Following the success of the recent campaign to clean up the northern stretch of the beachfront the Lions will now tackle tidying up Ramsgate’s main beach.

Save the date, Saturday, August 10. Litter- busters are asked to meet at the Blue Lagoon restaurant at 8am for an 8.30am start.

The clean-up will be followed by a bring and braai – take along some meat and liquid refreshments.

And remember if it is the last Friday of the month it is Braai and Brains time at the Ramsgate Lions’ Community Centre in Glenmarkie Road.

Take along your own meat and drinks – salads at R30 per person and soft drinks will be on sale. Get to the venue this Friday (26th) from 6pm. Braai fires will be supplied and the quiz (cost is R10 per entrant) starts after supper.

It is loads of fun and there are great prizes on offer for quiz whizzes.

Super show

There is a super supper theatre show on offer at Margate Retirement Village this month. `Some Enchanted Evening’ features acclaimed pianist/singer Evan Roberts and vocalists Samantha Landers and Anthony Downing as well as guest artist, cellist Nina Watson will be staged at the Azalea Hall this Saturday (27th). Doors open at 6pm and the curtain goes up at 7pm.

Pack a picnic supper, take along your drinks and glasses. Tickets, at R85 per person, are on sale from either the RAC or admin offices at the village or phone 039 3125000 for more information.

Artists to exhibit

`Art-by-the-Sea’ the South Coast’s longest established art club is once again holding its annual month-long exhibition of members’ work.

The art will go on show at Margate Art Museum from next Thursday, August, 1 when it will officially be opened at a cocktail party for invited guests from 5.30pm. The exhibition will be open to the public until the end of August. It is always well worth visiting this art display.

Many exceptional pieces will also be offered for sale.

Going bananas

Southcity in Ramsgate invites everyone to take part in the `Banana Bash’ which comprises a run, cycle and another run this Saturday, July 27.

If you would like to take part in this year’s event but need a sitter then read on.

There will be a special `Kidz Zone’ offering lots of different fun activities for the younger set and they will also get juice and biscuits during the morning.

Gentle reminder

Residents are reminded that the Ramsgate Residents and Ratepayers Association (RRRA) meets formally at the Community Centre in Glenmarkie Road on the third Tuesday of each month at 4pm.
