Margate Moves: Lovely Lisa is a semi-finalist

Miss South Africa will be crowned on Women’s Day on August 9.

 

One of the most coveted beauty pageant crowns belongs to Miss South Africa and lovely Lisa Stoffela from Margate is one of the five KZN semi-finalists in this year’s contest.

Miss South Africa will be crowned on Women’s Day on August 9.

The top 35 entrants are an impressive and diverse group. Among them are law students and graduates, nature conservation graduates, a private banker, owners of a photography company and a pizza takeaway, humanities students and a parliamentary officer.

For the next fortnight they will be out to impress the judges, actress and motivational speaker Leandie du Randt; broadcaster and Miss South Africa 2015 Liesl Laurie; former runway model and casting director Andiswa Manxiwa; Miss South Africa 2010 Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala and Women’s Health editor Danielle Weakley.

Lisa (26), who graduated with a BCom in Financial Management, is the owner of a small pizza takeaway restaurant and is a part-time model.

The Top 16 will be announced on July 11.

There is close to R3-million in prize money and sponsorships for this year’s glittering pageant, with the winner walking away with R1-million in cash as well as a car, a luxury apartment for a year and other fabulous prizes. The first princess takes home R250 000 in cash and all 16 finalists receive R25 000.

Let’s talk rugby

Former Bok and Sharks coach Ian McIntosh and Dolphins and Sharks player Errol Stewart are the guest speakers at a pre-Rugby World Cup business lunch. Mac was the first South African coach to win the IRB Vernon Pugh award for distinguished service in changing the face of rugby in the country.

All-round sports star Stewart played SA Schools’ rugby, cricket, hockey and athletics. He captained the Dolphins and played 98 matches and was also selected to represent the Proteas in six, ODI games. He donned the black and white Sharks jersey 35 and was part of the 1995 Currie Cup-winning Sharks squad.

They will give their perspective on the upcoming Rugby World Cup.

Margate Bowling Club will hold the event at the clubhouse and the date to save is Friday, July 19 at 12pm.

The cost is R200 per person which includes a three-course meal and two bottles of wine per table.

Southcity in Ramsgate will host a Banana Bash which comprises a run, cycle and another run on Saturday, July 27.

If you would like to take part in this year’s event but need a sitter then read on.

There will be a special `Kidz Zone’ offering lots of different fun activities for the younger set and they will also get juice and biscuits during the morning.

Classic cinema

The next classic DVD movie at Margate Retirement Village is that wonderful musical `Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’. The film, starring Jane Powell and Howard Keel, will be screened at the Ronnie Baker Hall on Sunday, July 21 at 2.30pm.

Another great supper theatre show is coming to the Azalea Hall.

`Some Enchanted Evening’ featuring the talented Evan Roberts, Samantha Landers and Anthony Downing with guest artist, cellist Nina Watson, will take the audience on a magical journey to Broadway.

Last chance

The final Margate Business Association’s Mardi Gras for the winter holiday season takes place in Marine Drive, tonight (3rd) from 6pm to 10pm.

It’s a great place to do a little night shopping as the stalls always have a variety of different wares and the street party always has a fabulous selection of fair food on offer.

Margate Round Tablers are to be congratulated for hosting a great music festival. Oppi Kus staged at Douglas Mitchell has received praise from all quarters for being an entertaining and well-organised event.
