From the Bowling Greens: Riverside women take runner-up spot in KZN Fours

News and results from South Coast bowling clubs.

KINGFISHER BA

Bowlers from all four districts in the province assembled in the Kingfisher Bowling Association district to compete for the KwaZulu-Natal Fours titles.

Sectional play took place on June 8 and 9, with the women’s final taking place on June 10 and the men’s final on June 11.

Both finals took place at Margate Bowling Club.

Men’s winners were Steve van Rooyen, Richard Hendicott, Peter Vink and Paul White, from Durban Wanderers.

Runners-up were Bradley Robinson, Hilton Lightfoot, Lester Coleman and Sean Lightfoot, from Lynnwood.

Women’s winners were Val Strydom, Elaine Gould, Ina Beavon and Shirley Cohen, from Parkhill.

Runners-up were Maureen Muller, Michelle Varner, Norma Louw and Sandy van Niekerk, from Riverside.

The KBA Novice Invitational, sponsored by 37@859 Consult (Pty) Ltd and All-In-One Catering Equipment, was started by Clive Edmundson in 2013 and was traditionally hosted by Margate Country Club.

Club novices who won their sections in the KBA novice competition earlier this year were invited to play and the field was then filled with the remaining novices who took part in the KBA event.

The novices invite a non-district skip and compete in a 2-bowl pairs event on a 3-2-1 scoring basis over 18 ends per game.

The competition moved to The Bell this year with 24 novices taking part over two days.

Winners were Nossie Patterson and Alex Bukes (skip) of Hibberdene.

Runners-up were Anton Swanepoel and Bez Bezhuidenhout (skip), also of Hibberdene.

They were followed by Brandon Nicholas and Peter Clark (skip) of The Bell, just ahead of David Nicholas and Hew Hodgson (skip), also of The Bell

BANNERS REST

Winners of the Super Spar Port Edward 2-bowl mixed trips were Brian and Pam Cole-Cook with Vi Pells.

Runners-up were Rod and Mary Phelps with Mac McKenzie, and second session winners Dave Hume, Amelia Pieterse and Ally Weir. Vi Pells won the 50/50 board.

Well done to the club’a 2019 singles champions, Amelia Pieterse and John Keppler.

MARGATE BC

Food Lover’s Market 2-bowl trips winners were Trevor Haywood, Herman Scheinberg and Karen Robertson.

Georgia Spur tabs in winners were Dieter Scholz, Derek McKechnie and Ernie Southwood.

Runners-up were Deon van Schalkwyk, Hans and Dina van der Walt.

Bowls SA mixed pairs is from June 20 to 23, so no tabs.

PORT EDWARD

Cowshed 2-bowl trips winners were John Keppler, Andreas van der Linde and Mary Fasciotti.

Runners-up were Roger Humphrey, Leoni Booth and Shelley Backhouse.

Second session went to Rod and Mary Phelps with Gino Alilovic.

Tabs in socials will continue on Saturdays and Wednesdays at 1.30pm.

THE BELL

Jaxx Restaurant and Abingdon Spar mixed trips were won by Bez Bezuidenhout, Brian Pirrie and Bruce Hoyer.

Runners-up were Maureen Head, Steve O’Moore and Nikki Nicholas.

Session prize to Leon Sander, Charmaine van der Westhuizen and Neil Ferreira.

TWENI

Tweni men’s pairs winners were Werner Moody and Don Roussow.

HIBBERDENE

Hibberdene Pharmacy trips were won by Bez Bezuidenhout, Hana Svoboda and Louise Shone.

In second place were Brian Pirrie, Anton Swanepoel and Silvia Pretorius.

Session to Charmaine van der Westhuizen, Johan Heath and Frank Rooke.

MUNSTER

Mariners Restaurant open trips was won by Chris Green, Anthony Card and Jokkie Van Buuren.

Hibiscus Brokers mixed trips today (20th).

30-Club draw and Wick Inn draw, and bring and braai on Saturday, June 30. Both draws to be done after the meat is cooked.

AGM is on August 27 after tabs.

SOUTHPORT

Winners of the Captain’s Anchor 2-4-2 were Artur Lopes and Tammy Gibbons.

Runners-up were Keith Mills and Astrid Jackson. Session prize went to Pat Bird and Zac Graham.

VILLAGE

Hibiscus Insurance Brokers mixed trips winners were Alan Tyers, Hazel Hosken and Doug Kent.

Runners-up were Ken Hills, Ali Mitchell and Chris Haslam.

Session winners were Norman Isherwood, Manny Rodriguez and Marie Momple, as well as Denzil Massyn, Gary Hess and Dawn Oehley.
