UPDATE: Protest action at Umgababa ends, police monitoring situation
The protest is said to have been sparked by lack of service delivery.
UPDATE, 11.50am:
PROVINCIAL Saps communications officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane has confirmed that the N2 has been reopened following a large protest which commenced earlier this morning.
The protest is said to have started as a result of angry community members who were voicing their issues regarding service delivery.
Police will continue to monitor the situation.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Protesters gathered earlier this morning along the N2 freeway near Umgababa.
Both the R102 and the N2 have reportedly been closed and traffic is currently being diverted.
Information received suggests that trucks have been used to blockade certain sections of the N2.

Protesters blocked roads on the N2 near Umgababa, Lamontville, Higginson Highway, Ntuzuma and Mary Thipe Road in Cato Manor. Metro spokesman Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad said police were on scene and voting stations are not affected. @TimesLIVE #SAElections2019

Various roads are said to have been blocked as protesters have set fire to tyres and have placed debris in the road.
