Margate Moves: It’s almost time to rev it up at South Coast Bike Fest™

The Gearhouse Full Throttle Entertainment Zone along Margate's iconic beachfront is the place to be for South Africa’s biggest motorcycle and music festival.

Get ready for three days of non-stop action at this year’s South Coast Bike Fest™ (#SCBF19). The Gearhouse Full Throttle Entertainment Zone along Margate’s iconic beachfront is the place to be for South Africa’s biggest motorcycle and music festival – presented by Ugu South Coast Tourism – from April 26 to 28.

South African motorcycle trials’ champions, Bruce and Brent le Riche, will be putting on a high-impact, interactive show with a series of new tricks and Yamaha South Africa’s brand ambassador, Alfred Matamela – aka King Donut – will put on a must-see performance burning rubber in his signature smoking style.

The country’s top all-female biker crew ShredBettys will return to this year to showcase their off-road racing skills and will be accompanied by Airworx, a company specialising in virtual reality. Visitors will get the surreal experience of riding motorbikes and surfing – all using virtual reality equipment!

Spectators will also be treated to high-energy impact racing at its best as top EnduroX riders put on a quality performance.

And for more revving, some of South Africa’s hottest musical acts and top deejays will entertain on the many pop up stages along Panorama Parade. Bands such as Fokofpolisiekar, Desmond and the Tutus, Pascal and Pearce, Locnville, Distruction Boyz, Euphonik and Dan Patlansky are on the programme.

Adding to the vibe will be six Beachfront Boulevard-Themed Bars, a village market and expo zones as well as many food courts.

Easter fun

Margate beach is the place to be for the Easter weekend. The Bioplus Easter Fever will take place every day from April 19 to 22 from 10am to 3pm.

On offer will be great giveaways as well as aerobics, Zumba classes, volleyball, cricket, touch rugby and beach soccer. For more information phone Vicky Wentzel at 082 812 7944.

There will be a special sunrise service at the beach on Easter Sunday (21st) from 6am.

Great music

`Tie a Knot in It’ is a fun original three-hander featuring the Rat Pack comprising acclaimed Durban showmen Rowan Bartlett, Darren King and Bryan Hiles, and is the next supper theatre show at the Azalea Hall. The `Vegas’ style show at Margate Retirement Village takes place next Saturday, April 20. Doors open at 6pm and it’s showtime from 7pm.

If you are a fan of the big band sound then you cannot afford to miss this film. This month’s classic movie is `The Glenn Millar Story’ and will be screened at the Ronnie Baker Hall on Sunday, April 21 from 2.30pm. Starring James Stewart and June Allyson it is regarded as one of the all time greatest movies. Cost is R5 which includes tea/coffee and biscuits at intermission.

Ramsgate’s iconic music venue Rocky Ridge hosts Indie Dog, a four-piece indie-rock band from Johannesburg this Saturday (13th). They play a transfixing mix of rock, blues and folk. The venue opens at 6pm – food served between 7pm and 9.30pm and the band is on stage from 8pm. Entry is R40 per person.

More entertainment

`Remember When’ is the title of a delightful sing-along show which will be staged at Margate Bowling Club on May 2 at 6.30pm. Directed by the talented Yvonne Bausek the show is a fundraiser for South Coast Hospice. Tickets cost R40 per person and wors rolls will be on sale at R20 each. Take note booking is essential. Go hunt

Little people are invited to have an `eggcellent time’ at the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Hosted by the Hibiscus Rotary Club (Margate and Uvongo) it takes place at the weekly flea-market on Easter Saturday (20th) from 10.30am to 11.30am. For more information phone Andre at 083 4598982.

Have a swing

Southbroom Golf Club hosts the annual SPCA Golf Day this Saturday (13th). Tee off times are from 10.44am to 12.15pm. The format is a betterball Stableford and the cost is R300 (includes green and competition fees). There are great prizes to be won. Players and supporters are asked to take along a bag of cat or dog food.
