Unexpected find during search for snares

The experience highlighted the challenges facing the inspectorate team from the SPCA when searching for an animal in difficult terrain

A group of volunteers gathered in the Marburg area last Saturday to hunt down snares.

The terrain they searched was not easy, as the grass was long and the bush  dense. It was also drizzling.

Although no snares were found during the search, a handbag was discovered under a bush with a bank card and keys inside.

The experience highlighted the challenges facing the inspectorate team from the SPCA when searching for an animal in difficult terrain.

At times the inspectorate team needs to search for dogs caught in snares when it is dark. This is not an easy task, often forcing the inspector to come back the following morning to continue the search.

The public are requested to donate headlamps and torches to the SPCA
