Tweni Talk: Educational computer found in Tweni

It was picked up near the whale deck last Monday morning, presumably dropped there after being stolen.

CHERYL Bannister Jones had her bag taken from an inner room at home last week. The money was removed and the bag was left next to her gate. She is not sure when it happened, as the security beams were on – except for a short spell when she was in the garden. It just shows that opportunists will take every chance they can.

And, a child’s personal educational computer, still in the box, was picked up near the whale deck last Monday morning, presumably dropped there after being stolen. Please contact your scribe if you know who it belongs to.

Lend a hand

Again, the extremely dedicated team comprising Liz Willey, Cheryl Aveyard, Denise Graham and Brucella Ridley from Umtentweni Conservancy decided to tackle weeds at the whale deck last Friday, but due to very extreme heat conditions were unable to complete the task.

Billing headache

On January 30, your scribe wrote to enquiries@ugu.gov.za requesting water invoices. A reminder was sent on February 11 and even DA Councillor Leon Garbade got involved, sending subsequent requests. To date she has heard nothing, after many follow-up emails. What are consumers supposed to do?

Bon voyage

Frazer and Cilel Smith say farewell to the Snoek family, Lea, Joost and their delightful baby daughter Indi this week, as they return to the Netherlands. Safe travels … and it was a pleasure to meet you all.

Sad farewell

Tweni bowler Derick Celliers says that members played dominoes, followed by a very good supper last Wednesday evening.

After three games of three sessions each, the only one to break 100 was Astrid Jackson, closely followed by Vel Mannion.

And on Saturday (23rd), tabs-in was followed with a very social evening of drinks and snacks, but for a very sad occasion. Mike and Vel Mannion, plus Max their Labrador, are returning to the UK. They have been members for only a few short years, but have had a huge impact – with Vel the ‘masterchef’ running the catering and Mike ‘doing the books’ and assisting with maintenance. It is however their special friendship that will leave so many with very heavy hearts. Thank you both so much and enjoy your new life. When a plane flies overhead every evening, your Tweni friends will think of you and drink a toast.

Three cheers

Celebrating a very special 55th wedding anniversary (29th Feb) are Jean and Derick Celliers. Birthday wishes this week go to Thelma Gomes (25th), Karin Bester (27th) and Merle Seaton on March 2nd.
