“I was DA member for the Westville area from 1999 to 2004 and later joined the ANC from 2009 to 2014. My change of political party was not floor crossing, but a well-considered choice of action to address the new challenges of serving the people of South Africa,” explained Mrs Borman.

She dismissed the common perception that parliament is all ‘perks and no work!’ “Most of the work takes place in various committee meetings where there is much preparation and studying of many documents.”

She stressed that the members of parliament had hectic lifestyles, yet they all work for one common purpose, the people of South Africa. “My 2009 position on the Human Settlement portfolio took me to extremely poor areas where there was little sanitation or piped water and I compiled various reports on these problems to take back to parliament.”

Mrs Borman also showed guests some of the stylish and distinctive outfits that she had worn to some of the openings of parliament.

She then took questions from the audience, and with the forthcoming elections looming, there were many knowledgable and forthright questions to which Mrs Borman graciously gave well considered and informative answers.
