Water woes

Spare a thought for the many frustrated Ramsgate residents who have once again been without water for five consecutive days.

The Ramsgate Ratepayers’ Association has done an amazing job of keeping the static tanks filled to assist those who have been affected. It would seem that the Ugu District Municipality does not know how to repair the main feeder line. Is it not time to call in the experts?

Last week was not a happy one with both electricity and water load-shedding.

Social scene

Put on those thinking caps and head off to the Ramsgate Lions’ Community Centre (in Glenmarkie Road) for the monthly `Braai and Brain Evening’.

Every last Friday of the month the Lions invites the community to be sociable and quizzical. Take along something for the braai, something to drink and find a few brainy friends to make up a team for the fun quiz today, Friday (22nd).

Fires are lit at 6pm. Salads are on offer at R30 and it costs R10 per person to enter the quiz which offers some good prizes.

For details contact Lion Warren Theron at 082 4149589.

Save the date

A new community pop-up market will be held in Ramsgate – outside the Artists’ Gallery in Marine Drive – on the first Saturday of each month.

Diarise March 2 and go along to the market which offers pre-loved clothing, upcycled and recycled goods as well as a good range or artisanal and organic food.

If you would like to find out more about the market call Taryn at 076 0787189.

Congratulations

Joan Korb of Margate has the biggest smile in town this week. She became a great-gran (for the second time) last Friday when her granddaughter Lindsay and her husband Lee Scott welcomed their first child, a bonny boy, James.

Joan’s other great-granddaughter Calsey Coles lives in Dubai so it looks as if she is going to have to travel up to Johannesburg and the UAE for some cuddle time.

Welcome wagon

This week’s red carpet is rolled out for Willem Draaisma and his son Cosmo who are visiting the South Coast from Amsterdam in Holland.

They have been revelling in the warm sunshine after five months of cold weather in Europe. One of the highlights of their visit was taking a beach walk from Ramsgate to Southbroom which they proclaimed to be simply spectacular.
