Tweni Talk: Bowling greens reopen

The recent ‘battle of the sexes’ was once again won by the stronger sex – the women!

Derick Celliers reports that Umtentweni bowling greens have reopened after their annual maintenance shut-down. The recent ‘battle of the sexes’ was once again won by the stronger sex – the women! The club’s festive season was very well supported with a great lunch, lots of good food, camaraderie and some good Christmas music (Bony M’s ‘Little Drummer Boy’ is still one of Derick’s favorites).

The Christmas hamper sponsored by George and Marie Pick and raffled for club funds was won by Jackie Ackerman on her first day at the bowling club. She is a new bowler with great potential and hopefully this will be a good omen for the future. It was good to see Jan Potgieter back for a flying visit from the oil rigs off Ghana’s coast. The club wishes all a very healthy, happy 2019.

Good wishes

Congratulations to all matrics who passed, as well as those whose hard work paid off and they prepare for higher education. If 2018 wasn’t your year, never give up – with hard work and dedication you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. And all the little boys and girls starting school for the first time today: you have some exciting times ahead and remember bullying is not to be tolerated. If it happens to you, be brave and tell a teacher or headmaster and your parents. It’s usually the parents and grandparents who have more of a difficult time on the first day of school.

Take care

Tweni Community Watch wishes everyone the very best for 2019. If you have not bought a calendar yet, there are a few beautiful ones left in stock at R250 each. Remember that all funds are go towards camera upgrades.

A prime example of where a new camera is needed is Abingdon Shopping Centre – it had its fair share of misfortune over the festive season with theft out of motor vehicles, a fender-bender and a handbag full of money belonging to Marge Boy stolen out of the hair salon.

There are many stories regarding the handbag incident, but thank goodness the contents of the bag (minus the cash of course) were found by some local youngsters at the Mtwalume turnoff. They handed it to the owner of a local take-away who found a card belonging to Marion Mc Neilage and called her. Marion and Marge took a drive to Mtwalume and paid a finder’s reward to the youngsters. Apparently the actual theft was carried out by a young boy in the company of two women. Please be alert at all times.

Runners rejoice

Moira King has some exciting news – Tweni’s new running group is called ‘Runderful’, so if you want to get fit or stay fit, join the group. It’s also a lovely way to meet new friends.
