Life sentence for raping daughter

A teenage girl (16) from the Cabhane area near Hibberdene was raped twice by her 51-year-old father in November 2015.

DNA results led to the man being convicted on October 29 this year, and on November 22, he was sentenced to life in jail by the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court.

The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Siboniso Gcaba of FCS Port Shepstone.

“Domestic violence, child abuse and rape must be reported to teachers, social workers, religious leaders, counsellors and the police in an effort to end the abuse and bring the perpetrators to book,” said Port Shepstone Saps communications officer, Captain Petros Mpinge.

“Everyone, including victims must speak out against any form of violence against women and children.”

Ugu Cluster Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele was pleased with the sentence, saying, “Activism promoting no violence to women and children must not last for the 16 Days Campaign, but must be an ongoing crusade for victims.”
