Hibberdene Happenings: Pothole repairs are much appreciated

Let’s hope the good work continues as there is still much to be done.

A CONCERTED effort has been made to patch and repair potholes around town in the last few weeks and for this the community is truly grateful. Let’s hope the good work continues as there is still much to be done.

Diarise the market

The unavailability of a speaker at last Saturday’s Methodist men’s breakfast did not deter those present, who enjoyed a time of friendship and fellowship, as well as a very tasty meal. All roads will lead to Mtwalume on Saturday, December 15, from 9am onwards when the Christmas flea and craft market takes place. The venue is the usual grassy area adjoining the swimming pool at Koelwaters Resort. There will be a variety of goods on sale, so drop in and get some bargains in time for Christmas. All the usual flea market goodies will be on offer, as well as a whole lot of extra festive season specials. Tables are once again available free of charge, so contact Sue Paterson at 082 4002616 to reserve yours as soon as possible.

Support the Lions

Have you visited ‘Hattitude’ in the Village Mall and deposited a few non-perishable groceries in the Lions’ food drive box? Every little bit helps and donations will be most welcome. A large donation of pre-loved clothes was received at the clinic charity shop during the week, so do pop in and browse.

Lucky winners

The November lucky draw winners are Dries Smith – Tiago’s; Yvonne Beck – Fifi’s Fresh Fish; Sue Thomas – Salon Marguerite; Heila Erasmus – Jolly Roger Fun Pub; Fienie Rosslee – Hibberdene Pharmacy; André Geyser – Lions Christmas cake. Thanks to all for the ongoing support.

Meandering the Midlands

Your scribe escaped the agony of Black Friday by using Steve’s broken ankle and resultant immobility as an excuse for not ‘gadding’ around.

Her sister, however, with whom they were staying at the time, was able to acquire several bargains and was thoroughly delighted with her purchases.

The journey to your scribe’s grandson’s wedding in Newcastle was hot and uneventful, with most motorists behaving well. The wedding was lovely, the venue charming and the bridal couple looked splendid and relaxed. It was lovely to see family again and take in the sights and sounds of the Midlands meander, while staying in Estcourt for the majority of the time.

Happy occasions

No anniversaries are on record for this week, but special wishes go to Annatjie Pretorius, who turns 70 on December 11th. Other birthdays to be celebrated this week are those of Ferdi Smith (today, 5th), Sarie Botes and Ronnie Williams (6th), Barry McDonald (8th), Santa Hanekom (9th) and Kobus Oosthuizen (10th).

Remember to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
