Hibberdene Happenings: Steve takes a terrible tumble

He suffered a disastrous fall and sustained two fractures in his ankle.

YOUR scribe had a surprise visit from her granddaughter Bridget Coulson (from Newcastle) last weekend. Bridget and a friend travelled down to visit her beloved ‘oupa’ Steve, who unfortunately spent the weekend in Hibiscus Private Hospital. The reason for his admittance was a slight ‘altercation’ with a ladder that collapsed and sent him flying.

He suffered a disastrous fall and sustained two fractures in his ankle. He has since been discharged from hospital, but is finding it very frustrating having to move around on crutches. Please remember him, as well as others who are not feeling too well at present.

Breakfast fellowship

Mizpah Church extends an open invitation to all men, no matter what denomination, to attend the men’s breakfast at the church this coming Saturday (17th) at 7am. The cost is only R20 per person, so go along and enjoy a morning of fellowship and tasty food. Contact Edgar Lilje at 084 5820772 should you wish to attend.

Be enlightened

And later on that day, the Hare Krishna Society meets for its enlightenment session and all are welcome to attend. Be sure to be at the Hibberdene Care Centre at 3pm and bring a friend along. Supper will be served. Call Rajen Mahabeer at 082 8362758 for more information.

Clinic closed

The final dental clinic of the year takes place today (14th), so if you hurry, you might still make it.

The Lions Club of Hibberdene would like to take the opportunity to thank Dr Tahir Khan and optometrist Brian Williams for the unstinting, excellent service rendered at both clinics during the year.

Both men are very considerate and helpful when dealing with the public and are real assets to the clinic services. The clinics will resume in mid-February next year.

Knitted toys

If you are looking for an inexpensive, but lovely Christmas gift for a small child, look no further than the Methodist Church’s ‘Knits and Natters’, which has a selection of beautiful handmade toys available for a donation of R20 or more. Make use of this offer – the women have been very busy and you will be boosting the church’s funds at the same time. The toys are available at the church.

Remembrance Day

A contingent of Hibberdene Moths attended the moving, meaningful Remembrance Day service at Mbango Valley last Sunday.

Memorable moments

Celebrating birthdays this week are Shenda Krisch, Marguerite Meyer and Anton Badenhorst (15th), Erica Fuchs (16th), Yvonne Linda and Fred van Heerden (17th) and Jessie James (19th), while Sue and Reg Thomas (14th) and Cindy and Andrew Farmer (15th) are wished well for their anniversaries.
