Off to Egypt

Marentia and Melvyn Adendorff of Leisure Bay are extremely proud of their youngest granddaughter Lushano Smit (24) who lives with her parents in Durban North. She has, for the third time, been selected to represent South Africa at the Biathlon World Cup (run and swim categories) being held in Egypt over the next few weeks. Her first international competition was in Guatamala in 2010 when she was just a 16-year-old schoolgirl. Lushano attended Durban Girls’ College and UKZN and is now a teacher.

Thank you

The AGS Church in Port Edward hosted the fourth annual ‘police breakfast’ at the Methodist Church hall last week. Every year the church works hard to arrange and cook an amazing breakfast for local hardworking police personnel. Pastor Willie Henning spends an hour every Wednesday morning at the police station leading devotions and discussions with staff. Pastor Henning commented, “On behalf of our community we would like to thank our policemen and women. As a token of appreciation we provide a wonderful breakfast and a casual gathering.” About 50 people attended the function and a big thank you is extended to SuperSpar for the donation of all provisions.

Girl power

The Port Edward Bowling Club held its annual prize-giving last Saturday. Chief catering member Lyn Walton prepared a delicious fish and chips lunch for about 40 people. Club champions were Barry Payn and Leoni Booth and chairman Rob Lyle took great pride in announcing that three female players had been selected for KBA District Teams: Leoni Booth (open), Marianne van Buuren (senior) and Val Smith (president’s team). The greens are showing signs of ‘spring fever’ and should be ready for action by mid-November.
