Hibberdene Happenings: Influx of ‘car guards’ creates a pesky problem

It is very confusing trying to work out which car guards are genuine.

THERE seems to be an inordinate number of ‘car guards’ in town of late, bearing no insignia to show which business, if any, they are affiliated to. Generally they are more pesky than useful. Guards from a local security firm are sincerely thanked for their efforts to rid the area of these ‘hangers-on’, but in most instances they are back in the area the very next day, often with a friend in tow. This really appears to be becoming a huge problem.

Terrible ordeal

To be involved in a hijacking must be one of the most traumatic experiences a person can experience. One family recently endured such an event and they are so disillusioned and terrified that they are heading back upcountry as they cannot cope with the stress of living in the area any longer. Spare a thought for these people and others in the same situation – who retired to spend their ‘golden years’ at the coast, only to meet with bitter disappointment and constant fear.

Good luck

Best of luck to the ‘Class of 2018’, which starts its final exams shortly. Your scribe will be ‘writing’ again this year as granddaughter Shannon Coulson, who attends Curro Bankenberg School in Witbank, is preparing to write her finals. Please remember all pupils during this anxious and stressful time.

Welcome back

Irma and Jan Peens left Hibberdene a few months ago, intending to relocate to the Cape. They were however spotted in town last week and have actually moved back to the are, finding it preferable to the Cape. They are warmly welcomed back.

Wally is well

It was good to see a photograph of Wally Archer in last week’s Bonus and to hear that he is alive and well in Australia. Prior to his move ‘down under’, your scribe worked with Wally for quite a number of years at the South Coast Herald.
