DR MARCEL Schutgens was seriously injured in a hit and run accident on Umtentweni Bridge at approximately 1pm last Tuesday. If anyone has any information, please let your scribe know. Wife Glenda and sons Emile (also a doctor – flew out from London) and Maurice (working on elephant conservation, flew out from Kenya) are devastated by this turn of events.

The unfeeling individual who did this needs to be found and locked up for a very long time. Yes, we understand that accidents happen but to callously drive away from the scene is disgusting. Thanks to those people who have come forward with information thus far. It has assisted in being able to piece together a fair amount of details on how the accident occurred – the cameras in place picked up some important details.

High tea

Don’t forget to buy a ticket for the second ‘It’s High Time for Tea’ fund-raiser in aid of upgrading the existing old cameras to high-resolution modern ones. The ‘Victorian Tea’ is being held this Saturday at Royston Hall, so do pop in. There will be music, two interesting guest speakers, amazing spot prizes, auctions, raffles and volunteer/sponsor bakers and chefs will be cooking up a storm to tantalise taste buds. Don’t miss out on this great event and remember – it is for a good cause.

When tasked with dressing up for ‘Heroes Day’, Ryan de Bruin of Tweni knew without a doubt that he wanted to dress up as his hero, dad Edwin de Bruin of Lazer 911.

To market

The Muddy Boots market, which raises funds towards the Tweni Community Camera fund, takes place on Sunday, August 5. Organiser Johan Braak can be contacted at 081 8184203 if you would like to book a stand. Johan has attracted many new traders to this event and there will be interesting things to see and buy. Miss it and miss out!

Good job

Work has begun on the rebuilding of the steps at Tweni Beach. Well done to the community and organisers who made this happen in a fairly short space of time.

Congratulations

Happy birthday wishes go to Tap Kruger and Margret Venter for July 25th, Chantelle Donald (26th), Lucille Henman and Jean Celliers (30th), and Adele Pretorius on the 31st.
