Four-legged friends impress judges at Margate Kennel Club show

The agility course was a breeze for many of the dogs.

Although the sardines were making an appearance at various beaches last Sunday, many dogs made a great spectacle at the Margate Kennel Club’s open dog show. The annual show, held at the Port Shepstone Borough Grounds, was a success and trainers and their four-legged friends enjoyed a great day out.

All won the hearts of the spectators in some way. The agility course was a breeze for many of the dogs, while some owners thought it would be fun to let their untrained dogs have a try, leading to no shortage of laughter.

Local dogs and handlers fared well.

Margie Hancock of Durban and her dog Ditto complete the obstacle course in record time.

Contact agility winners included Swift and Gail Taylor (grade three, large), Mindy and Bernice Smit (medium), Swish and Ninette Smith (small); Glitz and Ninette Smith (grade two, large), Charlie and Sharon Derman (small); Gemma and Elsie McKillen (grade one, large), Dante and Desiree Grutter (medium).

First places in non-contact agility went to Fizz and Gail Taylor (grade three, large), Mindy and Bernice Smit (medium),

Swish and Ninette Smith (small); Demi and Rosemarie Ludwig (grade two, large), Pooh Bear and Karen Salhus (medium), Charlie and Sharon Derman (small); Nina and Heather Moorcroft (grade 1, medium).

Top jumpers were Fizz and Gail Taylor (grade 1), Shenzi and Ann Shaw (grade 2), Swish and Ninette Smith (grade 3), Nina and Heather Moorcroft (grade 4), Sparkle and Ninette Smith (grade 5), Roxy and Sue Macnab (grade 6).
