Margate Moves: No water again but the sards have arrived

But it is not all doom and gloom as hundreds of crates of sardines were netted at Little Billy Bay in Ramsgate last Sunday morning.

It was wonderful to see the beach packed with excited people all trying to grab a few sards as the shoal moved north.

Take note, the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board has removed its nets between Scottburgh and Port Edward.

Piano men in town

Acclaimed pianists/singers/entertainers Jonathan Roxmouth and Evan Roberts will present `An Evening of Music, Song and Comedy’ at Margate Retirement Village’s Azalea Hall this Saturday (23rd).

Tickets for the theatre-style offering are on sale at R80 per person from the RAC or admin offices at the village.

Bar facilities will be available from 6pm and the fabulous show starts at 7pm.

Be moonstruck

Ramsgate Conservancy’s Moondeckers invite the community to watch the new moon rise over the ocean next Thursday (28th).

Get to the Whaledeck Enviro Centre by 5.30pm where you can enjoy hearty soup and homemade bread (R50 per person) and you can take along your own liquid refreshments. There will also be a lucky draw.

Lots to do

With schools closing for the winter holidays this Friday (22nd) the Sardine Festival gets into full swing. There are loads of fun beach activities at Margate from June 23 to 28. Contact Vicky Wentzel from Wozani Africa at 082 8127944 for details.

Rocky Ridge in Ramsgate is hosting a Fish and Music Carnival this Saturday (23rd). Eugene Rautenbach is the organiser and he can be contacted at 082 7793144.

And the regular Wednesday Mardi Gras are back as well. The first takes place in Marine Drive Margate next week (27th) from 6pm. For more information contact Corrie Wernick at 039 3172202. There will be two more street parties on July 4 and 11 – same time and place.

Swing it

Golfers are urged to support the Southbroom Conservancy’s big fund-raiser, the sponsored golf day. It will be played at Southbroom Golf Club on Saturday, July 14.

Hit high notes

Lovers of choral music are in for a treat next week. `Musical Memories’ a concert featuring the talented Hibiscus Choir will have two performances with the first being staged at Margate Retirement Village’s bowling club on Tuesday, June 26 at 6.30pm. Bar facilities will be available but patrons are asked to take along their own snacks. Tickets cost R30 per person. And the second show takes place at Ramsgate Lions Club’s community centre in Glenmarkie Road on Saturday (30th) at 6.30pm. Cost is R30 and tickets will be on sale at the door. The Lions will be selling chicken burgers and bar facilities are available.

Save the date

Ramsgate Lions Club will hold its next braai and quiz night next Friday (29th). It takes place at the community centre in Glenmarkie Road from 6pm. Take along some meat for the braai – salads are on sale and a cash bar will be available. The quiz comprising teams of four players follows after supper. For more information contact Lion Jenny Henry at 083 3098314. The club is wished well for its presidential induction dinner at the centre this Saturday (23rd). This pride may be small but it is big on doing good work in the community it serves.

Child Welfare Margate will hold its 65th annual general meeting at Margate Methodist Church next month. The date to diarise is Monday, July 9 at 2pm. The public is cordially invited to attend.
