A robbery at a residential estate on the R102 Old Main Road in Pennington in the early hours of this morning resulted in a teenager being shot.
“The teen’s dad had gone out at about 3am,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer Captain Vincent Pandarum, “and it is believed the youngster went back to bed without locking the door.”
Half an hour later the 14-year-old was awoken by the family’s dogs barking frantically.
When he got up to check what the commotion was, he was startled to find two men – one armed with a firearm – ransacking the house. The teen confronted the intruders.

At this point, the boy’s 17-year-old brother awoke and came to his brother’s aid. A fight ensued.
“The suspect with the gun then shot the 14-year-old in the back before both intruders fled with the stolen property,” said Captain Pandarum.
The elder brother immediately contacted the neighbours for help, and boy was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
It appears that the teenagers’ grandfather was at home at the time, but was sound asleep.
