Bitter-sweet goodbyes for Scottburgh Saps officers

The General spoke from the heart and thanked the members for their contribution to the fight against crime and for serving their country with loyalty and pride.

Scottburgh Saps bade farewell to Captain Leon Driemeyer, who had served just over 42 years and Warrant Officer Sagie Govindsamy who was just 14 days short of 35 years of service with the police.

Earlier this month, a retirement function was held at the Scottburgh Town Hall to thank these officials for their dedication to the Saps.

The Ugu Cluster commander, Major-General Sethenya Agnes Nxamagele, graced the function with her presence and delivered the keynote address.

The retirees and their spouses were presented with gifts and bouquets of flowers.

Sergeant Joel Singo led all in prayer followed by Lieutenant Colonel Vino Govender who gave the welcome.

Station commander, Colonel Ralph Ruiters, as well as the former station commander, Colonel Praga Naicker, also addressed the guests, offering messages of support.

A toast was made by Captain Vincent Pandarum and then came the cutting of the cake, which was had been baked by Detective Warrant Officer Salomie Pillay.

“It was a bitter-sweet event with smiles and congratulatory messages as well as teary-eyed farewell messages being exchanged,” said Captain Pandarum.
