Sheppie High creates awareness about drug abuse

PSHS will host an ‘Open Day’ on March 17 and all current gr 7 pupils and parents are invited.

Sheppie High’s ‘Teenagers Against Drug Abuse’ (TADA) held its annual awareness week and hosted rehabilitated addicts from South Coast Recovery Centre who spoke about struggles with addiction.

At the first 2018 awards ceremony last week, pupils were recognised for 2017 academic achievements. A full list of prize-winners is available on the school’s Facebook page.

The netball girls won 21-10, hockey girls lost 3-1 and the rugby boys won 49-0 in the night series against Creston College.

Thirteen athletes entered the Puma Sprint Series and Nkosazana Mchunu (U14) took gold and set a new school record in the girls’ 400m. Mlungisi Mabaso won silver and qualified for SA Champs in the boys’ U17 long jump. In the U14 girls Innocentia Ncama won silver in the 400m and Nande Sikutshwa silver in the long jump. Also making the finals were Philelinkosi Shozi (4th – 1500m), Lemard Pillay (5th -100m), and Chè Habib (7th – 400m).

The U14 cricket team was bowled out for 102 runs and the U15s for 180 runs with Wessley Dressing emerging top scorer (53 runs) against Southcity.
