Margate Moves: Super Snymans make a splash

THE 45th edition of the world’s largest open water swim, the Midmar Mile took place last Sunday. The event is a special one for the Snyman family of Ramsgate.

Caylan completed his 15th swim while his twin sisters Skylar and Jade swam their fifth and third miles. They all swam the race in bright pink in honour of the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa).

Get shaved or sprayed

It’s almost time for the annual Shavathon fund-raiser in aid of Cansa. It takes place at local shopping centres next weekend – February 24 and 25.

The Hibiscus Mall in Margate will have loads of volunteers who will be on duty to shave or spray your crowning glory and if you can’t be sprayed or shaved you can still make a most welcome donation.

Go along to the mall between 9am and 3pm and do your bit. For more details contact Sesethu Senene at 084 7320080.

Get those jabs

Pet owners are urged to take their animals to the free rabies vaccination clinics – for Southbroom – the venue is the Impenjati Town Board Offices next Wednesday (21st) from 1.30pm to 2pm.

The clinic will be in Ramsgate at the beach parking area on the 22nd from 8.30am to midday and at the Mzimela Centre in Extension Three from 1pm to 2pm.

The clinic moves to the Hibiscus Mall car park next Friday (23rd) from 8.30am to 12pm and to New Life Ministries Church (near Margate Country Club) from 1pm to 3pm.

Rabies is a killer disease – be a responsible pet owner and have your pet inoculated.

Important meeting

The Ramsgate Community Policing Forum will hold its annual general meeting at the Lions’ Community Centre in Glenmarkie Road on Saturday, February 17 at 2pm.

All Ramsgate residents are urged to attend the AGM where reports will be tabled and a new committee elected. The CPF does exceptional work in the area and deserves to be well supported.

AGM time

The Margate Business Association (MBA) and the Margate Community Policing Forum will hold their annual general meetings later this month.

The venue is the Margate Sands Conference Room in Marine Drive and the date to diarise is Tuesday, February 27 at 5pm.

Trivia test

Ramsgate Lions Club holds its monthly braai and quiz evening next Friday (23rd).

Everyone is invited to join the Lions at the community centre in Glenmarkie Road from 6pm. Salads are on sale at R30 per person and a cash bar is available.

Netcare Margate Hospital is hosting a pregnancy awareness day this Friday, February 16 from 4.30pm to 6pm. Mums to be are encouraged to attend and are asked to book by calling Asiphe Hlela at 039 3127474 for more information.

Boot it

The Hibiscus Mall in Margate is the venue for the monthly car boot sale and the February event takes place this Saturday (17th) from 8am to 1pm.

It is a great way to declutter by selling your unwanted goods and it is a good place to shop as you can grab some amazing bargains.
